April Mornings

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

It's unusually sub-arctic frigid horrifyingly freezing cool this morning. I'm not complaining. Are you proud of me? You should be.

My friends, it's April. Mid-April, even. The thermometer ought to be in the 80's on a daily basis. My windows ought to be open day and night. I ought to be slathering aloe on my sunburn.

Instead, I sit here in front of my computer, typing on the cold keys with my numb fingers. There's a space heater at my feet. It's on... high. I am no longer speaking to our local meteorologist. I hold him personally responsible. Frigid little children are chattering their teeth waiting for the school bus outside my window. I had to put an extra blanket on the bed last night. And, turn the ceiling fan off.

It's cold outside. It's April. Mid-April. Whoever said life is fair?

But, I'm not complaining.

It's blackberry winter! Just think of all the yummy blackberries that will properly form now. I don't care for fresh ones myself, but my kids and husband *love* them!

I won't complain either I'm just going to say it's too cold. So cold that last night I pulled out one of the rice pads (I made in Jan. and got the idea from you) and heated it up to take to bed with me. Thanks for that idea! When I was making one I thought you know I had better make a few of them and did 5 up. Let me tell you when the hubby and kids came home that evening and after many questions on what it was they each heated one up and now you will find one in each of their rooms. I plan on making more for presents. And Thanks for that pizza tip my kids will appreciate that one! Take Care :)

It's so wrong to be wearing a sweater and hugging my coffee cup IN APRIL!

James said that it is supposed to warm up. Oh yea...you aren't talking to him. ;-)

My son, who has a weather phobia, asks to "Turn that bald man on Momma, turn that bald man on the TV!" when it looks stormy outside.

Just to verify,
What exactly is "cold"?
Did y'all have snow yesterday?
No?
We did. Also went walking because it wasn't too cold, only 0 (32 for you).
Just checking.

Oh, poor, poor, poor Happygeek! I weep for you! I would curl up and die in your climate! You are made of some hearty stock... hearty stock which I do not possess. I am in awe at those of you that survive such temperatures. Awe, I tell you!

Here, south of the Mason Dixon line, this morning it was a horrible 36 degrees. In my book, anything below 50 isn't fit for man nor beast! I don't like 50 degrees, mind you, but I do my best to struggle through our 50 degree winter days. Did I happen to mention the HIGH on Monday was 58! Brrrrrrrrrr! And, it was cloudy. AND, it was sleeting! Oh. dear. me. I thought I would die.

You know what you needed this morning? A warm cup of coffee! There is nothing like coffee and friends to make the day seem warm...
we missed you this morning! : )

You Southerners crack me up. Ya really do.
a spaceheater at 50.
Tee hee hee.
I don't wear a coat outside when it's 50. That's a really nice spring day!
We hd 50 last week for the first time since October.
It was lovely.
But I am looking forward to seeing pics of your garden soon.
We can't plant till late May for fear of frost before then and it would be nice to see how yours is coming.

Happygeek,

You haven't reached 50 since October?! Yikes!!! I would not be a very pleasant person (would I, Mr. P?... don't answer that!) if I hadn't seen 50 since October!!!

Thankfully, in the sunny south, we generally have a 70 degree day here and there during the winter. That is what keeps me going and let's me know that life is still worth living. :-) But, then, like right now, we have a cold snap in the deep depths of April. Well, that's just TOO much! I can't take it and I might tend to complain a little about it. Not much though. (no commenting, Mr. P!)

Yeah, most of the real winter (Mid-Novmeber - mid March) is below freezing with a few days above zero here and there. Generally. We did hit 62 on Saturday and there was MUCH rejoicing in the land.
But then it snowed yesterday and I don't even want to think about the 14 forcast for the weekend. Grrr.

I really did love the winter (or lack thereof) the two years I lived in Texas but I love my family and my country more so we came home. I now cannot say I love winter anymore, we just cannot get out much it's rather difficult what with hats, boots, coats, mitts, and that's just to get in and out of the car.

You add scarves and snowpants to the mix to actually be outside and well, I bet your complaining is PALE in comparison to mine.

But Summer (all 5 weeks of it) is coming!!!!!
I LOVE me some summer.

Hey HappyGeek...Don't lump all us southerners in with LadyWhy here...she's a weather wimp....:)!!
Personally, though, I think we have 3 seasons here--we don't have a true winter!!

Don't worry LadyWhy...before long it will up in 90's every day!!

ChristyB
p.s.
I know LadyWhy personally and was speaking in jest! :)

Oh Happygeek,

That would be such misery for me! I would suggest packing up each and every member of your family and dragging them south... to the equator even!

But, I know how you feel. We lived four years of our married life away from our Alabama families in the land of perpetual summer, Florida! Oh, it was soooo wonderful (weather-wise) but I was desperately homesick and more than happy to head north to the arctic tundra known as Alabama! We sacrifice a lot of comforts for family, don't we?! ;-)

And, Miss ChristyB, don't kid!! I know you love those 90 degree days just as much as I do!! ;-)

I missed coming to coffee with you ladies yesterday but next time let's plan for iced tea basking outside in the sunshine! That's showing my faith that warm weather is sure to arrive sooner or later. (Please Lord let it be sooner!)

I promise.
This is the link to my weather forcast for the next 5 days.
0=32.
-10= 14.
You get the picture. You know what, this makes me want to whine louder than my 2 year old on a bad day.

EEEeeekkkkk! -10? I don't think I've ever experienced such horror!

Run for the equator, Happygeek! RUN!!!
