I've been meaning to address this ridiculous bailout for quite some time and today seems as good a day as any. I am disgusted. I am appalled. And, I have nothing but disdain for the "lawmakers" that are running amok in Washington. We need some real leaders... and that would be leaders with integrity. Where are they? I haven't seen too many of them lately.
First of all, I am not an economist. I am just a simple housewife living a simple life feeding six children, one husband, four dogs and a cat on a modest single income. How do I do it? It's called a budget, my friends. I am quite certain that if I decided to throw caution to the wind and spend like a stark raving mad lunatic, there would be no one to bail me out. Therefore, I am "forced" to be fiscally responsible. Imagine that.
Secondly, have you ever noticed when the government sticks its incompetent fingers into anything, it creates problems. I have begun to believe the government can't do anything right. It's just not in them. Government Intervention = Big Fat Debacle
So, where do we stand now? I am closely watching my elected representatives and how they vote on this bailout issue. In case you haven't picked this up already, I am against it. Any one of my elected officials that vote for such nonsense, such fiscal irresponsibility, such increased government waste and regulation, such socialism will not receive my vote come election time. Only one representative still has my vote as of the vote on Monday.
Here's the thing. The government and it's renegade regulators got us into this mess... which, by the way, is predominantly a Democrat problem not withstanding Nancy Pelosi and her idiotic speech on the floor on Monday. The woman is not the sharpest knife in the drawer, if you know what I mean. I'm not letting the Republicans off the hook here. I am perturbed at President Bush for wanting to hand a blank check to ol' Paulson who clearly doesn't know what he's doing. We need to fire them all and start over. Not with Obama or McCain either. We need principled men, knowledgeable men, men of integrity. Men who know how to balance their checkbook and live on a budget!
What should happen now? Bankruptcy. That's what would happen to me if I would have been equally irresponsible. Seems to make sense to have the same thing happen to the government and all it's government run enterprises. (which shouldn't be government run, but that's a whole other blog post)
It's a hard thing for the American public to understand. Most people have their heads in Dancing With The Stars and not on the state of our nation. I get that... sort of. People are buying into these scare tactics. Let me ask you this. If it was so all fired important for this bailout to happen immediately, why are our congressmen celebrating the Jewish holidays? Hmmm. Not more important than carving the Rosh Hashanah turkey (or whatever food is served on such an occasion), eh?
I don't mean to be glib, well not totally. Government needs to take two giant steps back and let the chips fall where they may.
In the meantime, I'm planting a bigger garden and getting some chickens. Self-sufficiency, man. That's where it's at.

This is such a complicated mess.
MESS.
IT will hit not only Americans but those of us in other countries too.
Our economy is stronger but with the slowdown y'all aren't going to buy as much from us any more. We sell y'all a lot.
The problem with letting the chips fall where they may is a very ugly recession. (Which may happen anyway).
People are going to start hiding their money under their mattresses again.
On a side note, I looked it up and it was 47 this morning in your fair city.
Lady Why, Lady Why. That is NOT cold. It's a lovely fall day. When the wind chill hits 0 then you can fell sorry for the kids at the bus. Till then, they are fine.
Ha! Happygeek, you seem to forget that my body systems begin to shut down at anything below 50 degrees! :-)
But, since it's just October 1st I decided I can't start complaining already and these 75 degree afternoons are truly delightful... other than the fact it means winter's coming. ACK!!
Also, I'm beginning to see the wisdom of the whole hide-money-under-the-mattress thing! :-)
May I apologize on behalf of all fiscally responsible Americans to all of you in other countries that will, no doubt, be impacted by our Washington crooks, cronies, and/or inept politicians. We are truly sorry they have made such a mess of things. It's a bad reflection on all of us that do things 'right' and 'responsibly' in our daily lives. To be perfectly honest, it's really ticking us off!! MESS sums it up quite nicely, for lack of a more appropriate word that would probably be inappropriate for my family friendly blog! ;-)
Personally I am waiting for America to ask China or Europe for help with $$. . .one world, one money, etc. It seems to me I read something like this in the BIBLE!
I can't believe you think people should be held accountable, several generations have been raised that it is everyone elses fault. . .it isn't?
What scares me are the "young voters" you know the ones who don't really know what is going on because like you said they have their heads in People magazine, or texting the latest gossip but they think "Change" is what we need. We need a young hip president. . .yeah who brings socialism.
You hit that ball right out of the park, pinkexplosion! One world order... I can see it happening right before my very eyes. Scary stuff!
And the we-need-a-change-to-socialism Obama would just love to usher that in!
Yep yep yep... head nodding yes. I just cringe when I think about this. And the way they are cramming it down our throats despite the house vote is pathetic and criminal.
Great post! I wrote about this myself the other day - and my parents and I all contacted our senators and representatives to inform them that they would not have our votes if they gave theirs to the bailout! Remarkably, our Democratic congresswoman voted against it.
You should read this article - the author makes a great analogy between the Titanic and the financial crisis.
Amen! Amen! Amen!
Preach it sister!
Whoops! Left out the link! :) Here it is: http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig9/quinn9.html
